We are the Mods, we are the Mods, we are, we are, we are the Mods...

Glasgow enjoyed a mini Mod revival in the late 1970s, mostly driven by the release, in 1979, of the big screen version of The Who's Quadrophenia.

All of a sudden, the city was swamped in parkas, sta-press suits, desert boots, pork-pie hats, and Fred Perry shirts. And, for those with a bit more money, a scooter was essential.

While many longed for, and lusted after a vintage Lambretta, most had to make do with a second or third-hand Vespa. And the place to go, and hang out, was Mickey Oates' scooter emporium on York Street, seen here in 1981.
